What to Expect

What to Expect

Identify Utilities

Underground utilities will be located and marked with flags and/or lawn paint.

Aerial Construction

In areas with above-ground utilities, fiber will be attached to existing electric or telephone poles.

Buried Construction

In areas with underground utilities, digging and boring will begin.

Conduit / Fiber Distribution

Conduit will be fed into the ground and then fiber will be placed. Both will be distributed via large reels.

Fiber Vaults

Underground boxes will serve as access points for our technicians to access the buried fiber network.

Lawn Restoration

Once construction is complete, our crews will rake, seed, and straw areas where digging occurred.

Construction Steps in the Process

Construction Steps in the Process
  1. Door Tagging to let residents know where and when we are working.

  2. White lining the route for underground construction to indicate to locate companies our intended path.

  3. Locating existing utilities.

  4. Buried Construction begins at this point installing conduit and vault or ped structures to house the cable later

  5. Aerial Construction would have minimal impact on the homeowners and mostly go unnoticed unless there was a need for an anchor.

  6. Placement of fiber in the conduit if buried construction method was used.

  7. Restoration as needed to include seed, straw, concrete, or asphalt repair.

  8. Splicing and testing for fiber for serviceability and network activation.

Construction FAQs

Construction FAQs
The flags or paint markings in your area were placed by local utility companies and help our team identify where the utilities are underground. Before Ozark Fiber can start construction of our network, we need these markings to protect against damage to other utilities on your property. Our construction crews will come back through to remove the flags once construction is complete.

Ozark Fiber installs conduit and fiber-optic cable along an underground path in the City Right of Way using a trenchless boring rig. This method has minimal impact and installs the conduit at a depth no less than 30” from the surface.
Ozark Fiber is permitted to access designated utility easements also known as a right-of-way (ROW), usually located within a strip of land running along the street, sidewalk, a rear lot line, or between two lots. Many homeowners maintain the ROW areas that are adjacent to their property for aesthetics purposes, however, it is not owned by the homeowner and is there specifically for this purpose. We work with the city permitting departments to access these areas to build our fiber-optic network.
During the design phase, the engineering team determines the most efficient way to provide service. The intent is to select the least intrusive point as general location for a pedestal or vault. This location is typically in the same location as your existing providers. Anchor locations are also located with others on your property and are there to support the new aerial line placement and the pole it is attached to.
Our construction teams approach your property with the assumption that there may be private utilities located underground and will do their best to avoid these. You can take extra precautions and reach out to the Ozark Fiber team via the information flyer that was left at your property to clarify any concerns you may have.

Construction can be a messy process, and we always try to leave the area as good or better than it was when we started. Occasionally, we will need to return to make repairs or do additional clean-up. If you see an issue that needs our attention, you can submit a ticket here.
